[FPSPACE] An anniversary to be remembered

On Nov. 29th 1961 less than eight months after Yuri Gagarin's
orbital space adventure the first US person did likewise. His
name was Enos, his spaceship a Mercury capsule. In fact, Enos

completed two orbits, and so his flight has never been labelled

'suborbital' by space historians.

The campaign of extending 'personhood' and associated civil
rights to hominids is slowly gaining pace, also in the United
States, where bonobos, chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans
may soon win the right not to live in captivity.

The flight by Enos was apparently dramatic. The below link
is news to me. A few paragraphs therefrom:

"Enos, strapped into a space module orbiting the earth, was
subjected to 33 [electric] shocks in a row,"

"His capsule did not land where NASA anticipated, so he was
stuck in the capsule for 3 hours and 20 minutes."
