Technically speaking, this schematic of the gyro-horizon assembly is part of
the missile's navigation system, which in theory allows it to determine
aspects of its actual location/attitude.

The guidance system is how it determines where it wants to be and what
changes in flight are needed. The control system then implements those
desires.

To engineers, each of these functions: navigation, guidance, and control --
are very distinct but inter-related activities involving different types of
hardware.

Subject: [FPSPACE] R-1 GUIDANCE SYSTEM

The attached jpg (compressed to 97 KB) is said to be of the R-1 guidance
system, from the book
Jurgen Michels; Peenemunde und seine Erben in Ost und West; Bernard und
Graefe Verlag, Bonn, 1997. p.231

Can anyone offer a translation of the German and Russian, or relate it
to later rockets please?

Ian Bryce
