Passing on this note from a friend:

For those of you who are not aware of it, there is a modern and very
much alive (but ailing) Astronaut Bar and Grill near JSC, on NASA Rd. 1,
called "The Outpost". "The Outpost" is strictly a low rent, hangout,
but is much beloved by astronauts, engineers and the like. It is a
treasure trove of Astronaut Memorabilia, particularly autographed
posters and lithographs, which are plastered all over the walls and
ceilings. There is even a training suit hanging from the ceiling!
The grill serves some damn fine cheese burgers and the atmosphere is,
well, rarified.
Currently the restaurant/bar/grill is falling on hard times and may have
to close for good. If you haven't visited "The Outpost", do so as soon
as when your travel plans permit. You can find out more about the "Save
the Outpost" movement at
http://savetheoutpost.home.att.net/ .

This message is simply to let you know that some colorful space history
continues to live, and it's something you can participate in. It is not
a plea for funds, nor is it an endorsement of the fund raising effort.
